Bringing more health to remote communities
This month, I'm working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on a project I'm really excited about. We're designing a program which will reach thousands of small, remote villages with multiple health interventions aimed at saving children's lives.
For years, the polio eradication program has mainly offered polio vaccine to Nigerians. This new program will bring much more - including prevention and treatment for diarrhea, pneumonia and malaria - three of the biggest threats to children's lives. I'll spend some time fine-tuning the program design, and I hope we can start delivery very soon. This project should show how the polio eradication infrastructure can be used to reach communities with health services that dramatically reduce death and illness of children and pregnant women.
